Advantages Of Law Education In Recent Years

By Chris W. Tan

Lawyer jokes abound; they’re like moss on a Mississippi tree stump. Some are funny, but most are just that: jokes! Next to becoming an RN – Registered Nurse, getting a degree in law can be one of the most important educational opportunities you can choose. You will, however, find that getting that law degree will be tedious, frustrating, and time consuming. When we were young kids, most thoughts drifted toward becoming a pilot, sports star, or something to do with the medical profession so we could be in a position to help people in their daily lives. What may have escaped you then, may not escape you now that you’re older, and have decided that there is one path to follow to fulfil your destiny, and that’s being a professional lawyer.

Looking long-term, if your goal is a Bachelor of Law degree, in many cases you will be generously rewarded for your legal services not only in the USA, but foreign countries, as well. Even though the certificate in legal practice that waits at the end of the rainbow is worth striving for, the trip will be fraught with law school frustration which will, in many cases, require you to have a strong sense of equanimity stored away. It will take a considerable effort to become a trusting and recognized lawyer not to mention the years of studies involved. But a law college allows you to take a giant step in entering plenty of well-paying endeavors. If you’re interested in working at the corporate or government level negotiating verbose contracts, or defending or prosecuting criminals, a law degree is your ticket to opening plenty of doors.

A law school education plus a CLP offers plenty of career options for graduates even to the point of opening up your own law practice, and specializing in tax or real estate. Having that degree in law can also provide an escalator for a career in politics. In a recent memo from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many state and local officials hold some level of law knowledge, and in the Federal Government, over 168 representatives, and 57 senators are licensed to practice law. That same memo also projected that employment of lawyers will grow exponentially up to the year 2018. With those recent statistics, it doesn’t take a crystal ball to see that getting involved in taking a law course is a profession worth pursuing. Actually, it has been pointed out that a level of law college education including a Bachelor of Law degree is often a requirement for running a senatorial or congressional campaign, or working in politics at the presidential level.

One of the best advantages of a law education you can sum up in two words: self-employment. This gives you greater freedom and more flexibility in deciding which direction you want to take your interest. If you are a “person” type, you can help families by working in areas of adoption and/or family law. On the other hand, there can be satisfaction working for social causes and justice, and assisting those who are less fortunate or disadvantaged. Regardless of where your heart and education takes you, the money will be pretty good. The latest average annual income figures show a range from $105,000 to $128,000.
